Caríssimos,

O IES está a organizar 2 seminários semanais para explorar as ideias de Liberdade, num ambiente informal e de confraternização. Já participei há uns anos e posso garantir que foi uma semana espectacular: quer em termos de relações que ficaram, quer em termos dos debates com pessoas que entendem a nossa matriz ideológica.
PS: o prazo de inscrição é curto e acaba amanhã, dia 15/Maio.

The aim of The Institute for Economic Studies Europe is to stand at the center of a worldwide network of students, scholars and other intellectuals. Since 1989, the Institute, a non profit organization registered in the state of Virginia, has aimed at discovering, developing and supporting the most outstanding people it could find among students, scholars and other intellectuals who share an interest in exploring and applying the principles of classical liberalism. For that purpose, IES uses or supports three different tools of teaching or of research. Every year we organize summer seminars somewhere in Europe, a summer university in Aix-en-Provence, France, and sponsors researchers or translations of major books.

Each of these activities aims at the spreading of classical liberalism which includes among its principles:

– the recognition of inalienable individual rights and the dignity and worth of each individual
– the protection of those rights through the institution of private property, contracts and the rule of law.
– the support of the ideal of voluntarism in human relations, including support of the free market mechanism in economic affairs and free movement of goods, ideas and people.

We are proud to announce the opening of a new Master in Business, Law and Economics at Aix Marseille University.

Although new and entirely in English, this program builds on a long tradition developed here in Aix-en-Provence, France. A tradition based on sound economics that promote a dynamic, open-world, austrian understanding of social phenomena and of the emergence and evolution of institutions.
This one-year program is open primarily to students with a background in economics, although we consider students with a law or business background as well.
You will find more information on the attached flyer. Printed flyer can be mailed on request.
We hope that you will find that program interesting and advertise it among your students and friends.

O IREF publicou o seu anuário sobre Fiscalidade na Europa.

O relatório inclui 21 países, incluindo Portugal, e versa sobre o que de mais importante aconteceu em termos de política fiscal e orçamental na Europa.

A Europa é neste momento uma manta de retalhos, incluindo países com contas quase equilibradas (NL, NO, SK, LU, DE e SE) e outros com contas muito desequilibradas (por exemplo, Portugal) em termos orçamentais. A situação é também diversa em termos fiscais, sendo a única tendência a complexificação dos sistemas fiscais.

As receitas foram originais, contraditórias e muitas vezes confusas. Creio que o relatório é uma leitura interessante para quem precise desta informação profissionalmente ou para quem tenha curiosidade em conhecer os diversos sistemas.
