A ciência produz-se através de artigos científicos que são submetidos para revistas internacionais, com revisão por pares, e que geralmente dão o seu contributo em cima de outros trabalhos já publicados e revistos (raramente, ou nunca, uma contribuição é 100% original, no sentido em que faz sempre uso de algum método ou saber anterior). Ora, este processo desencadeia um subprocesso de citações, onde prestamos o devido reconhecimento ou crítica a um trabalho passado.
Carrie Mott e Daniel Cockayne (juro), «cientistas sociais» especializados em gender studies, argumentam que isto de contar citações é um instrumento, e cito, «neoliberal», que contribui para a «reprodução da heteromasculinidade branca do pensamento geográfico». Urge, assim, que os feministas e anti-racistas se insurjam contra esta ferramenta do neoliberalismo, e que «resistam a estas tecnologias anti-éticas de predomínio das hierarquias na produção científica». Trocando por miúdos, entre o prémio Nobel reconhecido pelos seus pares que tem dezenas de milhares de citações e um tolinho qualquer que diz que os pénis são uma construção social, a diferença é só mesmo o preconceito hereropatriarcal.
Abstract
An increasing amount of scholarship in critical, feminist, and anti-racist geographies has recently focused self-reflexively on the topics of exclusion and discrimination within the discipline itself. In this article we contribute to this literature by considering citation as a problematic technology that contributes to the reproduction of the white heteromasculinity of geographical thought and scholarship, despite advances toward more inclusivity in the discipline in recent decades. Yet we also suggest, against citation counting and other related neoliberal technologies that imprecisely approximate measures of impact, influence, and academic excellence, citation thought conscientiously can also be a feminist and anti-racist technology of resistance that demonstrates engagement with those authors and voices we want to carry forward. We argue for a conscientious engagement with the politics of citation as a geographical practice that is mindful of how citational practices can be a tool for either the reification of, or resistance to, unethical hierarchies of knowledge production. We offer practical and conceptual reasons for carefully thinking through the role of citation as a performative embodiment of the reproduction of geographical thought.

resumindo, em 4 anos o Centro de Estudos Sociais da Universidade de Coimbra gastou cerca de 1 milhão e 700 mil euros em deslocações e estadas?
Folgo em ver que a hegemonia dos homens brancos heterossexuais está cada vez mais a ser posta em causa pela ciência progressista.
De facto, as citações funcionam como um instrumento de amplificação e consolidação dessa hegemonia no campo científico. O facto dos homens brancos heterossexuais serem a maioria dos cientistas do Ocidente (graças às prerrogativas inerentes à sua condição, o chamado White Privilege) já lhes garante a supremacia numérica nesse campo, relegando para um plano sub-alterno as demais classes de cientistas, tais como as cientistas ciganas lésbicas, os cientistas poli-raciais meta-transgénero, os cientistas transformistas de cariótipo 51 (XXXXXYY) e as cientistas muçulmanas negras paralíticas trans-específicas pseudo-hermanfroditas.
E as citações, por seu turno, garantem-lhe a supremacia intelectual, uma vez que os cientistas andro-leuco-heterossexuais, ao citarem apenas os seus pares, possibilitam que os cientistas andro-leuco-heterossexuais sejam os cientistas mais citados, promovendo assim, por um lado, a andro-leuco-heterossexualidade no âmbito das publicações científicas e, por outro, marginalizando as demais classes de cientistas, que não encontram lugar neste circuito fechado de andro-leuco-heterossexualidade.

Talvez seja antieconómica e o CES se veja obrigado a peregrinar em incursões de investigação para chamar ‘trabalho de campo’ à reescrita de ciência já adquirida.
