Chipre recebe bail-out (actualizado)

Com bail-in. 9,9% dos depósitos acima de 100.000 euros e 6,75% abaixo desse nível serão transformados em capital bancário. Férias bancárias na segunda-feira. Drástico. E sem precedentes.

Cypriot finance minister Michalis Sarris said his government had already moved to ensure deposit holders could not make large withdrawals electronically before Tuesday’s open; Jörg Asmussen, a member of the European Central Bank executive board, said a portion of deposits equivalent to the levies would likely be frozen immediately.

Acordar sábado no Chipre não está a ser nada fácil.

Co-op credit societies, normally open on Saturdays, were shut for business in the coastal town of Larnaca as depositors started queuing early in the morning to withdraw their cash.

“I’m extremely angry. I worked years and years to get it together and now I am losing it on the say-so of the Dutch and the Germans,” said British-Cypriot Andy Georgiou, 54, who returned to Cyprus in mid-2012 with his savings.

Foram dez horas de negociações em Bruxelas, que terminaram assim, mas terão começado assado: Cyprus state broadcaster CyBC reported on Saturday that German Finance Minister actually entered the Eurogroup meeting on Friday proposing a 40 percent haircut on Cypriot bank accounts. Sarris stated on Saturday that this had also been the proposal of the International Monetary Fund.
