Curiosamente, é a parte do discurso que mais desagradou o caro Rui que eu achei mais brilhante. Opiniões… e é no minimo curioso como todos os citados pelo Rui cortam a última frase da citação – e aquela que confere parte do brilhantismo ao discurso. Funny.

A análise do Mickey Kaus então na Slate vai mais longe, reduz a citação a isto:

“I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street …. [E.A.]”

O “more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe” não está lá para nada, especialmente a parte do “more than one”… é por isso que como sugere o Rui, isto tudo deriva de “um acontecimento muito concreto”.
