Thanks for picking this news item up, and let us hope that Brasileiros writing to the Health Minister and to Lula da Silva, asking that Brasil join the international efforts to prevent Aspartame from doing further damage to so many millions of people, who have mistakenly placed their trust in the workings of the United States Food and Drug Administration.
The only way the USA is going to wake up to realize that this chemical should never have been forced through the approval process in 1981 by Donald Rumsfeld, when he was CEO of G.D. Searle (google: Rumsfeld’s Bioweapon Legacy, to read more) is when other NATIONS say no to it, like neighbors like Mexico and Canada, and our dwindling number of allies.
South Africa and now Indonesia are making tremendous strides to accomplishing precisely this, and are thus leading the world in consumer protection efforts.
Do some research on Aspartame, and then ask all of your friends, colleagues, and family to write to Lula and to the Health Minister: Lula has had a video disc on the neurotoxic and carcinogenic damage done by aspartame for almost ten months:
I know because I sent it to him, and his staff was good enough to reply, but still, they haven’t banned this terrible chemical.
I am happy to reply to any questions.

Read the items on the website I started, and if you agree, write to Ambassador Sardenberg at the United Nations asking that Brasil cosponsor the REsolution in the 2007 UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY. The New Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, should hear from you by letter, as well! The UN needs a new Undersecretary General whose entire focus is bringing truthful medical information to member states, to counter the mendacity and misrepresentation of the multinational corporations involved, like AJINOMOTO OF JAPAN, THE WORLD’S LARGEST ASPARTAME AND M.S.G. MANUFACTURER, and Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola, even pharmaceutical companies adding aspartame/methanol/formaldehyde/diketotopiperazine to their products, which even include children’s’ vitamins and aspirin!!!
Monstroso, isn’t it?

Dear Stephen,
My mental health must be damaged by years of gulping down aspartame-ridden food (“they” do it surreptitiously), because i do not want to believe your theory. Don’t despair, though: i have kept the tin-foil wrapping of every chewing gum, and my protective headgear is almost ready! Live long, aspartame-free, and prosper!
Best regards,
António
